Jason's Deli

So for those of us that live around a Jason's Deli, this might seem like a silly blog post, but we have a lot of people that move into our apartments that move in from out of town or even out of the country. Jason's Deli is right down the road from our apartment complex, and let me tell you, it is GOOD!

They have an amazing salad bar that you can get pretty much anything on - hummus, organic fruit, cottage cheese, gingerbread or cornbread muffins, oh yeah, and salad with pretty much anything you'd want on it! You can either go up one time with half of your sandwich or soup, or you can get the unlimited experience and go up as many times as you'd like to.

They have MASSIVE sandwiches! Our Assistant Property Manager gets the Beefeater every time and it comes with au jus, a pickle and some chips.

Our head of Maintenance, Lora (you can read about her a few posts ago) gets the taco salad. Crunchy tortilla chips underneath an actual salad with your choice of regular or Southwest Chicken chili, guacamole and sour cream to top it off!

I got the California Club this time (but I've had their taco salad, salad bar, tuna sandwich, and everything has been delicious!) and it was very tasty :D It's creamy with avocado, you've got a lot of lettuce on there and the crunchy bacon is soooooo good. But I really love that it comes on a croissant, it's so buttery and flaky and goes perfectly with this sandwich.

 

But the best part (especially if you have kids, or are a kid at heart) is the free ice cream that you get if you eat in the store! They have chocolate or vanilla or you can swirl it. And you can get it in a cup or a cone, or a cup with a cone on the top.

Garage Bar: Louisville, KY

This is a farm to garage eatery that has deliciously made pizzas. I went with my aunt to celebrate a wonderful wedding for her son that had gone off without a hitch. If it had been any warmer we would have sat outside as they have some pretty awesome seating.

They have a pretty good bourbon list, and it was hard for me to choose. So I closed my eyes and pointed. "Breaking and Entering" was the bourbon my finger landed on, so I got it on the rocks for $10.

The nice thing is their menu is seasonal, so you'll get something completely different each time. I got the butternut squash pizza which had walnuts, cherry tomatoes, arugula, fior di latte (mozzarella   made from cows milk, not water buffalo) & ricotta. It was so good! Silky texture from the pureed squash, mozzarella and ricotta, and then you had the crunch from the walnuts and the burst of flavor from the cherry tomatoes. SO good!

My aunt got the country ham pizza and loved it! I just had a slice of the ham off of the pizza since I don't like blue cheese, and it wasn't salty at all. I think that it was sliced thin enough so you didn't get overwhelmed which is nice. I took a slice home for my husband and it was gone in two seconds. He said the dried cherries added a nice sweet aspect to it.

I'd love to go back on a Friday or Saturday when they have burgers, but they're first come first serve until they run out, so you better get there early. They even make their own buns which is awesome!

The atmosphere is unique, kind of loud inside, but very chill outside. There were two pretty large parties in the middle of the small space, or it could just be how seating arrangements go there, kind of a family style. When the waitress (who was fantastic, attentive, but not overly so) brought us our check, there was some old school candy with it. Bazooka bubble gum, an Atkinson peanut butter bar and two types of tootsie rolls.

I'm for sure going back, and I highly recommend you check it out!

AP Crafters

My husband and I visited AP Crafters on a Friday night, and I expected there to be at least a 30 minute wait. However we were seated right away at the bar, which wasn't overly crowded, you didn't feel like you were right on top of your neighbor. The only issue was I didn't get any time to sample the gummi bears they had right out in front when you walked in, so my husband when back and snagged me a few (what a great guy).

They have a pretty extensive bar menu which was nice. I got a Knob Creek on the rocks and my husband got a Shalafly which he was really excited about (I guess if you're a beer lover you'd understand...however I'm not one, so I don't). We didn't have to wait too long for the drinks which I LOVE, customer service is pretty important to me.

So we ordered an appetizer.

Appetizer just doesn't seem like a good enough word to describe what we had though.

Heaven on a plate, best thing I've ever eaten, O. M. G. These all come to mind when I think of the amazing bacon bruschetta that we had.

I'm not the biggest fan of caramelized onions, or sun dried tomatoes for that matter. So why, you may ask, did I order this appetizer?

Bacon jam.

I mean, really? Who thinks of that?! Bacon. Jam.

I mean, there's also brie, walnuts, and arugula on the grilled crostini as well, but that bacon jam. Seriously.

So how in the heck is anything that we order for dinner going to live up to this? Well it came pretty close, let me tell you.

I got the pulled pork and chorizo tacos and my husband got the fish tacos. My tacos had a definite kick to them which my husband loved (he stole two of the three). You're served three, along with some chips. And once again, these are just so much more than chips. They had just the right amount of salt to them, they were crispy and just delicious. They didn't need any salsa or queso or anything.

My husbands fish tacos were also amazing. The fish was flaky, and tender, well seasoned, and delicious (I stole one).

And for good measure, we ordered brussel sprouts. I know, I know, ewwww. But these are cooked in BACON (do you see a trend?) and chicken stock and red onions. So I had to at least try them. They were pretty good, my least favorite thing of the night (but look at what we had), until my husband dared me to try one on a tortilla chip that came with our tacos. I'm not sure what it was about that combination, but everything just came together and was like the perfect little bite.

I'm for sure looking forward to going back and ordering, pretty much anything off of the menu. My mom said that the reuben egg rolls are delicious, and I kept debating on the salmon or the grilled pork chops before deciding on the tacos.
